Dimapur, August 3: In view of the situation prevailing owing to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to avoid large gathering, the state Government has decided that the programme for celebration of the 74th Independence Day 2020 in the district would not be as usual.
In a communiqué to all Deputy Commissioner, Principal Secretary Home, Abhijit Sinha stated that the respective Deputy Commissioners would unfurl the National Flag and take to Rashtriya Salute at the district headquarters in a function to be organized in the ground being usually as the venue for the celebration of the Independence Day. Likewise, in the sub-divisions, the respective Additional Deputy Commissioners/Sub-Divisional Officers (Civil) will unfurl the National Flag and take the Rashtriya Salute.
The Principal Secretary stated that there would no requirement of reading out the speech in the programme as the speech by the Chief Minister at Kohima which would be telecast, would be the official speech for the entire state.
Cultural events or any other kind of event in the programmes, requiring the presence of a large number of people would be avoided. Further, crowds at the grounds/venues would also be avoided.
Sinha also stated that the number of officers and staff coming to witness the programmes would be restricted and the seating arrangements should ensure that social distancing norms are observed. Further steps should be taken for disinfection of the venue before the start of the programme. (Page News Service)
