
Dimapur, November 2: The Department of Horticulture held a farewell programme on November 1 for its outgoing Director Dr R Elithung Lotha.
A press release informed that the event was attended by the Advisor to Horticulture & Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan as special guest.
Describing the outgoing Director as a ‘jewel in her crown’, the Commissioner & Secretary (Horticulture), Anenla T Sato, recounted her association with him and how she found the outgoing Officer to be extremely knowledgeable.
She asserted that because of the knowledge and experience of the outgoing Director and through mutual co-ordination and cooperation, many of the Department’s proposals could see the light of day.
Eluba Temshi, DDO of the Directorate, highlighted the various achievements of the outgoing officer during his 35 years of service in various capacities, notable among which were the settlement of numerous outstanding audit paras, optimisation and streamlining of the Department’s establishment section from chaos to an orderly system, bagging the ‘Best Horticulture State’ award in 2018 and introduction of air cargo facilities for perishable commodities in the State.
In his farewell speech, the outgoing Director attributed his success to God’s grace. He asserted that all the achievements and accolades highlighted by the different speakers were only because of the sincerity, dedication and hard work of the officers and staff.
He thanked all the ranks and files of the Department with whom he got an opportunity to work with during his 35 years long service, for extending all sort of support in performing of his official duties and said that his services in different capacities have been a great learning experience, which had enriched his professional acumen. He further urged the officers and staff to continue rendering the yeoman services to the people especially the farmers and requested them to go to the farmers instead of having the farmers come looking for us.
The special guest, Mhathung Yanthan, described the outgoing officer as a humble, God-fearing and disciplined man. He challenged the officers and staff to rededicate their life and service and contribute more than what one is currently doing.
He asked the officials to maintain the standard that the outgoing Director has set and emulate his example, simplicity and sincerity. He further remarked that the cordial relation and camaraderie which the outgoing Director had tried to maintain among the employees is very important and should be kept in mind.
