Dimapur, June 16: Ever since lockdown began in the country and Nagaland, Hazi Park, better known as Hongkong Market has remained closed till today to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
The Hazi Park Business Welfare Committee (HPBWC) had met the District Administration earlier on at least two occasion and even submitted representation appealing to open the market, but the decision for the same is yet to be taken.
However, on June 15 Dimapur District Task Force discussed the issues of Hongkong Market and New Market and gave an indication that these two markets would be opened soon with certain guidelines.
In view of this, the HPBWC on June 16 took up sanitization drive of the entire market area, while the shopkeepers cleaned their shops and made it ready to open as and when the order to reopen the market comes out.
The HPBWC arranged Sodium Hypochlorite solutions, spraying machines and engaged two persons with full PPE kits to disinfect the market area on Tuesday. The entire area comprising of Hazi Park/Hongkong Market was disinfected with Sodium Hypochlorite solutions.
The members of the HPBWC were also present during the entire exercise of disinfecting the market complex and expressed hope that Hongkong Market will be ready to welcome customers in a sanitized market very soon.
Talking to Nagaland Page, President, HPBWC, Hukato V Achumi said that he had discussed about opening of the market with Dimapur Deputy Commissioner at least twice but so far nothing has happened.
He said that the orders to open the market would come from the higher authorities at Kohima and added that before such orders come, they have decided to sanitize and disinfect the entire market area.
He said today the shopkeepers cleaned their respective shops, while disinfectants were sprayed in the market area. (Page News Service)
