H&FW Deptt to strengthen functioning  of District Hospitals in state

Dimapur, July 21: The Health and Family Welfare Department is stressing on strengthening the functioning of all the District Hospitals in the state with posting of specialists and staff which is inadequate at present.
Disclosing this to Nagaland Page, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Ramiah Ramakrishnan said that he has set some priorities and goals to be achieved through the cooperation of the department and public at large.
“I want to strengthen the functioning of all the District hospitals of the state with posting of specialists and staffs which is inadequate at present,” he said
In this connection, recently Nagaland Health Minister S. Pangnyu Phom visited Dimapur District Hospitals and had also assured to fill the gaps of the inadequate doctors, specialists and staffs in all the district hospitals.
“My effort will be focused on strengthen the functioning of District hospitals with posting of specialists and staff. It is my first priority at present”, Ramiah, who was recently appointed as Principal Secretary said.
He disclosed that he wants to integrate the activities of the State Health project and also of the National Health Mission for improving the infrastructural requirements which is much needed.
He said, “Much can be achieved if the state Health Projects and NHM activities are integrated and streamlined”.
On Immunization, Ramiah stated that immunization against diseases is a must and he has taken a resolution to bring in full immunization.
“Along with the entire health department team we will try to achieve full immunization and that has been the goal of the central and the state government too. Our efforts will also be focused on achieving the full immunization, and this is a priority for us,” the Principal Secretary stated.
He said that the health department will be focusing on awareness programmes by involving the frontline workers and civil societies down to the village level for disseminating information on the outbreak of diseases in the state and ways to prevent the occurrence and all the remedial measures.
“We will be creating more awareness on health sector programs through front line workers,” he added.
On postings and transfers of doctors and medical staffs, Ramiah said that the service rules will be strictly followed and there would not be any scope for backdoor transfers and postings.
When queried about the frequent allegations of corruptions in the health sector, Ramiah said, “Transparency in the functioning of the Health department is the only mantra to weed out corruptions and the corrupted will not be spared. Strict actions will be taken against any if found to be involved in any malpractices”.
On Medical College in the state, Ramiah said that he will put in more efforts to speed up the works relating to the completion of the Medical College and the Cancer treatment centre in the state.
It is believed that the Nagaland Health Minister S. Pangnyu Phom will carry ahead his dedication to improve the health scenario of the state.
During the stint of Himato Zhimomi, the outgoing Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare much development had taken place. Himato continuously worked round the clock to develop the health scenario of the state which was in disarray.
When Nagaland Page contacted Himato Zhimomi and enquired of his achievements, he said he doesn’t wish to mention though there is a long queue of achievements and success during his one year stint as Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare.
Himato simply said, “I was just doing my duty”.
