H&FW Dept gears up for MRVC


Dimapur, September 7: The State State Health & Family Welfare Department is on full preparation state-wide for the Measles Rubella Vaccination Campaign. A meeting of State Task Force held under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary, H&FW, Himato Zhimomi on September 6 at Secretariat had deliberated various issues in regard to the campaign.
SMO, WHO Nagaland gave a presentation on the progress of activities at State and District levels by sharing the official tracker sheet. Few districts like Dimapur, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Peren and Zunheboto are yet to conduct 2nd DTF while review of micro-plan is also due for some districts was expected to be completed soon.
Update on status of district micro-plan preparations, distribution of IEC materials and procurement of AEFI kits were shared. MRVC target – data triangulation based on previous IPPI report was also shared for comparison of estimated target. Issue on fixing of realistic targets was discussed since the projected GOI estimate (35% of total population) is projected at 7,14,269 as compared to headcount targets submitted by districts totalling to only 4,72,947. Whereas, report based on estimation based on previous IPPI round (IPPI coverage x 3) is projected at 6,59,727 children. Decision was taken to re-look at MRVC targets at the district levels before finalization of the final target.
In this regard, the Principal Secretary, H&FW suggested joint director’s in-charge of District to visit their respective districts at the earliest and review MRVC targets as well as assess preparedness for the Campaign.
Prepared assessment with focus on checklists pertaining to trainings, meetings, micro-plan review, vaccine & cold chain management planning, etc with funding and involvement of partner departments like Education were highlighted. It was also reminded on the need to document and maintain all activities for review by assessment team visiting the State from 10-15th Sept 2018.
SPO UIP Nagaland also presented on the status of activities and preparation for MRVC by the department. He said that it is a tentative plan to organise State launch of MRVC at Northfield School, Kohima. He also highlighted about the state activities for procurement and also informed that Lion’s Club was on support of IEC activities as the official partner agreed to fund a short video production with Dreamz Unlimited, flex hoardings and banners, leaflets, posters, printed T-shirts for School MR Warriors and stickers.
It was also mentioned that a contribution of 1000 anaphylaxis kits and 200 nos. of AEFI container boxes for AEFI kits by NHP have been made. The meeting was also told that the state is prepared for the receipt, distribution and storage of MR vaccines for the campaign.
It was also informed that a state level orientation workshop would be organised on 25th September with the Media and religious leaders.
Suggestion have been made on identification of a brand ambassador for MRVC for which Department has already engaged Sievituo Solo, a renowned cyclist travelling the world on his bamboo cycle to take the message of MRVC to all parts of Nagaland. There may also be possibility of engaging popular motorcycle groups/clubs to promote MRVC, it also added.
Discussions were also held on the need to sensitize private practitioners to deal with negative messages circulating on social media. Accessibility of session sites need to be kept as high priority especially for urban areas and inclusion of pre-schools, crèche’s and kindergartens have to be verified. Radio jingles to be broadcast all over Nagaland with the help of AIR for greater dissemination of MRVC and public awareness. Confirmation would be made for co-operation of Muslim community especially in Kohima and Dimapur and to share IEC materials in their local script as they have a sizeable population.
The Principal Secretary, in his closing remarks, encouraged all to work harder and acknowledged the effort of the line departments and partners involved for the success of the campaign and also informed the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio would be launching on 3rd October 2018 in Kohima at state level.
