Heavy rains to lash State till Sept 12: NSDMA

Dimapur, September 7: After witnessing on and off rains for some days now, Nagaland is likely to receive widespread heavy rains till September 12. Rain activity is likely to start during the next 24 hours.
According to weather forecast by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) heavy rainfall is very likely over Nagaland from September 7 with a significant increase of heavy to very heavy rainfall from September 8 to 10, after which it will decrease.
As per NSDMA weather forecast and the IMD Regional Office, Gawahati, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to lash almost the entire state, inclusive of both plains as well as hills. It forecast moderate to heavy rain and thundershower at many places with moderate lightning strikes and strong wind over Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Phek, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto districts.
The intensity of rains would be more over northern parts, which are most likely to record heavy rains. With this, threat of localised flooding and landslides cannot be ruled out, NSDMA said.
These showers will be intermittent in nature. Chances of hailstorm also cannot be ruled out over a few areas. Partial clearance will be seen on September 12, according to the weather forecast.
The NSDMA advised Governmental departments responsible for roads and other infrastructures and the public to take precautionary measures during the period. (Page News Service)
