Heavy rain lashes Akuluto town

Kohima, May 6: Rains accompanied by storm which has been lashing the region for a week now has created devastation in several places including Nagaland.
In the latest incident, heavy rain accompanied by storm lashed Akuluto town Sunday afternoon in Zunheboto district damaging several houses. No loss or injury to human has been reported, but there are reports of damage to properties by the storm.
Weathermen have predicted heavy to very heavy rain in the region for another couple days.
Rains accompanied by storms have created havoc in neighbouring State Assam and claimed over hundred lives in other parts of the country. The Union Government has warned of devastating storm sweeping the Northeast and asked people to remain alert.
People are also worried about the road condition in the State if the rains continue, as this year there has been inclement weather in the State since the beginning of the year. There has been no respite for the people and which could create natural disaster like landslides.
If incessant rains continue there is possibility of massive road damage between Kohima and Dimapur as the works on the four-lane between the two towns have slowed down notwithstanding hullaballoo from sections of people.
The rains have also hampered the ongoing road maintenance across the State, though poor workmanship has compounded the problem. (Page News Service)
