Dimapur, February 20: Health Education cum Health check-up and awareness on PNDT Act for the Adolescent and Child bearing age group under BBBP was conducted at Bhandari town hall on February 15, organized by the Medical Department in collaboration with District Administration Wokha.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Lawrence, MO CHC Bhandari who also gave the keynote address. The programme was attended by EAC Bhandari, Programme Officers and staffs of CMO, Eloe Hoho members, Adolescent Club members, ASHAs, AWWs and students from different schools. Altogether more than 300 Participants attended the programme.
Dr. Nounenuo Terhase, Jr. Specialist (Obs & Gynae.) DMMDH Wokha, gave a speech on ill effects of Teenage Pregnancy and its side effects, illegal abortions and its effect on health, STD & Cervical Cancer.
Shanchobeni, Panel Lawyer, WDLSA Wokha, talked on PNDT Act on Legal Perspective, Penalties and Punishments, Misuse on Sex- Determination leading to Female foeticide. She also said women faces untold sufferings such as repeated abortions which adversely affect mental and physical health.
T. Sulanthung Lotha, EAC Bhandari, encouraged all the participants and made aware the importance and concept of BBBP.
Dr. Zuben Kikon, Dy. CMO urged the participants to learn and disseminate the right information to the community. Dr. Aotula, Dental Surgeon, CHC Bhandari pronounced the vote of thanks.
The programme was followed by counseling and health check-up where 23 adolescents came to avail the facility and distributed free medicines.
