Sports meet begins

Dimapur, October 31: The Highway Area Sumi Sports Association “10th Union of Sports meet” kicked off today with I Kitto Zhimomi (IRS), Commissioner and Secretary Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland and Managing Director, Nagaland Hotels Ltd, as the special guest at Unity Village Dimapur.
Addressing the gathering, Zhimomi said there are two essential qualities that leads to successful life, that is dedication and discipline, and to attain the higher the goals these two quality must be applied to life.
Underlining the sports in the state, he said, “We either get more infrastructure first and produce the champions, or produce the champions in some form or the other and then engender the infrastructures”.
He also said, “We should not only ponder at what the government could do for us, but we must also be motivated and discipline at every individual level and strive for our goal.”
Further, he said that there are many upcoming Naga youths who have potentials to achieve the best, but unless more efforts are put to task it will not succeed. He also stated that a neighbouring state like Manipur has generated several Olympians, Asian games winners, etc. and thereby their governments are rendering more attention in the sports infrastructure he added.
Zhimomi gave his words that if there is any potential star in the field of sports under Sumi Highway Area, he announced that he and his family would shoulder whatever it costs to promote a potential sportsperson, like as requested by the Unity Village, Sumi community.
Taking a jibe on social media, Zhimomi said that Naga people are taking every aspects in a negative point of view, and it has regretfully become the cancer of our society.
He requested everyone to have self responsibility and to push forward our society and community towards positivity because negativity would not take our society forward he added.
Stressing on the rights and duties practiced by forefathers, he said that it can be distinguished on two aspects, such as rule of the nature and rule of law.
He said, “Until we comprehend our duty as equally important as our rights, we will not be able to progress in life.”
The elders are suppose to love the youngsters, the youngsters are suppose to respect the elders, the rich are supposed to be considerate to the poor and the poor are supposed to be grateful to the rich; however, this old practices has slowly declined and therefore, he said and urged the gathering to adopt maturity and utilise the respect among ourselves so that we could live in a better society.
The program began with an invocation prayer by Rev. Khetoshe Aye, Pastor Unity Village Sumi Baptist Church, Khekishe Aye, Chairman Sumi Community Unity Village delivered a welcome address and indigenous songs was performed by Sumi Community Unity Village women folks, wherein, Special guest I Kitto Zhimomi (IRS) officially kicked off 10th Union of Sports meet of Highway Area Sumi Sports Association.
The first men’s football match was played between Unity Village vs Diphupar, in which Unity village won by one goal and women volley ball between Chekiye A vs Chekiye B was played today.
