Guv stresses on university social responsibility

Dimapur, June 14: Nagaland Governor PB Acharya today emphasized that universities and university affiliated college students should visit villages at regular intervals, and engage with residents of the villages in regard to cleanliness, literacy and immunization. They should be game changers to identify the beneficiaries for Central and State flagship programmes, he said.
Addressing a meeting with Vice Chancellors of Universities and other organizations today at Raj Bhavan Kohima, the Governor said the meeting was organized in response to President of India urging Governors to convene meetings with VC of State universities from time to time and to inspire universities towards University Social Responsibility (USR).
The Governor also stated that the President of India, in his speech at the closing ceremony of the Governors conference, said that Universities should try to digitize process including admission application and certificate distribution. Universities should focus on skill development and employment generation activities including internship. They should develop centre for excellence on at least one subject, he said.
The Governor also called on various organizations including, Rajya Sainik Board, Red Cross Society, BS&G and NEZCC to work on modalities on how to strengthen the society. He said that the dormant or hidden energy of these organizations should be utilized to reach out to the people especially those living in the remote areas.
The meeting also decided that apart from the State function, World Yoga Day 2018 will also be organized at Raj Bhavan on June 21 with participation from university students, Rajya Sainik Board, Red Cross Society, BS&G and NEZCC. The Governor also suggested on conducting quiz competitions on welfare projects of Central and State governments coinciding with 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. (Page News Service)
