Guv for utilizing MGNREGA funds for water conservation

Dimapur, April 25: Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya has suggested for MGNREGA funds to be utilised for water conservation, specially during the monsoon seasons so as to save villages from water shortage and boost agricultural activities.
He stated that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on the panchayats across the country to conserve rainwater and should spend MNREGA funds for water conservation.
The Governor stated that harvesting rainwater was the need of the hour and making the switch to an eco friendly rainwater harvesting system is neither complicated nor time consuming and will result in a wide range of benefits for rural areas. He called on the Universities, NEZCC, Scouts & Guides, Red Cross, Ex Servicemen Association and other civil organisations with vibrant manpower to work with the VDBs the awareness in their respective villages.
Lauds Rio
Meanwhile, the Governor has lauded Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on spelling series of measures during in his address in the State Level VDB and Village Council Conference on April 24 at Kohima.
The Governor valued suggestion of the Chief Minister on the matter to penalise non-performing VDBs for slow progress and poor project implementation while rewarding those performing VDBs. He opined that transparency and accountability should be maintained for proper development and economic transformation of all villages in the state.
The Governor also appreciated the decision to call back all Government employees from the boards as the literary percentages of the state at 78.55% indicated that all the 1238 villages should have at least one non-government employee who is educated and can execute the role.
The Governor also congratulated the VDBs of the State for being regarded as a role model for local self government and community participation across the country. This is the foundation for a vibrant democracy, he added. (Page News Service)
