Eighteen super models from 10 different countries on January 26 participated in the Mt Everest Fashion Runway, registering a Guinness World Record for the highest fashion runway on earth. The organizers of the show were Dr Pankaj K Gupta (Nagaland, India), Riken Maharjan (Nepal), and Ramila Nemkul (Nepal). The models and the crew started their journey to Kala Patthar on January 17 from Lukla. It took nine days of trekking to reach the venue.
The Mt Everest Fashion Runway was organised to create awareness about climate change. The apparels used in the fashion show were bio-degradable, including the shoes. The battery used during the shooting was brought back to Kathmandu for proper disposal. Models also used pro-biotic detergent to lessen the carbon foot print.
This was a message to the fashion industry, which is the second most polluter in the world, how fashion can be less sustainable.
The fashion show lasted for one hour on 5,644 meters above sea level, with Mt Everest as backdrop.
