Green Future Nursery inaugurated in Tseminyu


Dimapur, April 27: A forest nursery in Baptist Higher Secondary School Tseminyu was inaugurated by DFO Kohima Rongsenlemla Imchen on April 26. The Green Future Nursery is an initiative of Kohima Forest Division wherein school students were given responsibilities to raise the seedlings with the help of technical and financial inputs from the department. The schools were selected on the basis of their involvement in conservation activities and also the activities of the Eco Clubs.
For the first season, three schools were selected for raising Green Future Nursery namely Baptist Higher Secondary School Tseminyu, GMS Botsa, GHS Kigwema.
During the inaugural programme, DFO Kohima Rongsenlemla Imchen thanked the school authorities and the students for their active participation in raising the nursery. She said that this initiative was started with the purpose to encourage students to engage them in conservation activities and to elevate environmental responsiveness amongst the students for making them responsible agents of change.
The nursery includes varieties of flowering and fruiting species which would be planted in and around the school premises and other areas in the coming weeks under the theme “Planting trees and hope for the future”.
Gwasemo Apon, Principal BHSS Tseminyu appreciated the initiative of the department and thanked the DFO that such activities would enhance the capacity of the students with regard to conservation of nature.
