Govt to review appointment system in Police Dept: CM

Kohima, February 14: The State Government today said a committee will be set up to study and recommend for conduct of recruitment rally in Police Department.
Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio said it is time for the State Government to review the appointment system in the Police Department and conduct free and fair recruitments.
He was replying to Opposition’s demand for setting up an inquiry committee to probe into alleged massive backdoor appointment in the Police Department, which Home Minister Y. Patton has put the blame on unit commanders and the DGP.
Not satisfied with the reply given by Patton during the Question Hour, Opposition members demanded that inquiry be conducted.
Leader of the Opposition, TR Zeliang said appointments are being done on the recommendations of VIPs and that measures should be adopted to stop backdoor appointment forthwith.
The Home Minister also alleged of massive appointments without conducting recruitments in the past by former Home Ministers like Imkong L. Imchen, G. Kaito Ayeh, Kuzholuzo Nienu, Thenucho and even Neiphiu Rio when he was Home Minister.
Patton put his statement based on social media reports doing the round about backdoor appointments in the past by former Home Ministers.
But Nienu said Patton has a habit of blaming others for his mistakes, and added that it was unbecoming of Home Minister to indulge in corruption instead of taking corrective measures. He said Patton implicating him is character assassination and demanded an apology from the latter.
Imkong also demanded the Home Minister to substantiate his claim about his 5000 appointment when he was the Home Minister.
Sensing something fishy and irregularities in the Police Department, some Naga organisations have raised serious objection and sought clarification from the Government and until then they have decided not to allow new recruits to undergo training at Chumukedima.
