Inaugurates renovated Badminton Stadium Kohima

Kohima, October 12: Nagaland Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu today asserted that the state government is making all efforts to improve sporting infrastructure and promote sports persons.
Speaking during the inaugural function of the newly renovated Badminton court and stadium here this evening, Kronu said that it is high time that Nagas catch up with other sportsperson of the country and therefore the government under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is serious to promote sportspersons and infrastructure across the state.
The government is working on improving sporting infrastructure not only in Kohima but other district headquarters as well under the Special Infrastructure Programme, he said.
Meanwhile, the Minister, a badminton enthusiast himself, appreciated the Capital Shuttlers Club for carrying out the renovation works even before the government released the sanctioned fund. He said that if only other developmental works could also be taken up similarly the state would see much progress.
Presenting a brief report of the construction committee, N Wati highlighted the various renovation works carried out in the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Kohima.
He informed that since flooring was in very bad condition world class flooring approved by Badminton World Federation (BWF) from Taufik International Professional Sports Flooring, Malaysia has been laid in the stadium, which is first the State.
Other works include, installation of better and brighter lighting facilities; Bathrooms with new fixtures; VIP bathroom, Male and Female Dressing area and painting of the whole stadium inside and outside.
Construction of a new stage, rain protected entrance at the front; rain water harvesting facility with storage capacity of about 16000 litres installed and repair of leakage in the roof.
Kohima District Badminton Association information and publicity secretary Medozhaho Rutsa chaired the programme while Ex-Deacon of KABA Alemtoshi led in prayer and KDBA vice president Sabu Yashu delivered the welcome address.
Subsequently, an exhibition men’s doubles match was played between Minister Kronu/Nagaland Badminton Association president Kesonyu Yhome and Deputy Commissioner Shanavas C/KDBA president & SP Kohima Kevithuto Sophie. (Page News Service)
