Kohima, February 18: The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has exposed at least 12 departments in 29 cases of misappropriation, defalcation and loss of materials involving Government money amounting to Rs 178.96 crore.
This was revealed in the audit report of the CAG on Nagaland State Finances for the year ended March 31, 2018, a copy of which was tabled in the just concluded State Assembly by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who also holds the finance portfolio.
The CAG report stated that the following departments – School Education, Power, Rural Development, Public Works (Roads & Bridges), Health & Family Welfare, Tourism, Irrigation & Flood Control, Municipal Affairs, Urban Development, Taxes, Land Records & Survey and Private Firms were involved in misappropriation and defalcation up to 10 years.
School Education Department was on top with four cases costing Rs 82.96 crore, which included Rs 82,000 theft, Rs 82.79 crore in two cases of misappropriation and Rs 16 lakh for loss of Government materials.
Power Department had involved in single case of misappropriation amounting to Rs 25.48 crore.
Health & Family Welfare with seven cases was involved in Rs 16.36 crore, including two cases of misappropriation amounting to Rs 1.85 crore, four cases of loss of Government material worth Rs 11.50 crore and a case of defalcation valuing Rs 3.01 crore.
Tourism had cost Rs 14.19 crore in 2 cases, which include misappropriation of Rs 9.19 crore and defalcation of Rs 5 crore.
Private Firms (names not specified) was involved in Rs 7.23 crore loss of Government materials.
PWD (R&B) in two cases had cost Rs 8.78 crore including Rs 78.51 lakh in misappropriation and Rs 8 crore loss of Government materials.
Taxes involved in two cases of loss of Government materials worth Rs 6.44 crore.
Various departments (names not specified) were charged of Rs 4.77 crore in two cases of loss of Government materials.
Municipal Affairs involved in two cases of misappropriation worth Rs 4.11 crore.
Rural Development was found involved in 3 cases of misappropriation valuing Rs 3.61 crore.
Irrigation & Flood Control – single case of misappropriation worth Rs 3.46 crore.
Land Records & Survey was involved in single case of misappropriation amounting to Rs 1.24 crore.
Urban Development had single case of misappropriation amounting to Rs 28.50 lakh. (Page News Service)
