Dimapur, April 30: Observing that ‘single use plastic’ is being used during relief distribution works etc, particularly by NGOs in the wake of the lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, Joint Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Elizabeth Ngully reminded all Deputy Commissioner and all Administrators of Municipal Councils and Town Councils to ensure that single use plastic are not used for packaging of relief items.
The Joint Secretary said any other alternative like paper bags/jute bags and locally made non-plastic bags etc may be used.
Public may be encouraged to carry/being their own carry bags during distribution of relief items, she stated.
It may be mentioned that the state Government has imposed total ban on all single use plastics in Nagaland to tackle the menace of plastic and the serious environmental and ecological challenges posed by rampant use of plastics. (Page News Service)
