Governor, Dy CM extend festival greetings

Dimapur, March 31: Governor of Nagaland La. Ganesan has extended greetings to the entire Konyak and Phom communities on the occasion of Aoleang and Monyu festivals respectively.
Aoleang is the festival of the Konyaks celebrated to welcome the New Year beginning with spring seasons to pray for a bountiful harvest of crops in the current year, the Governor said adding it is also to recall the rich culture and traditional practices and honoured the significance of the day which is observed with beautiful attire with ornaments during the festival.
He also wished the Konyak brothers and sisters good health, happiness and prosperity.
In another message, while extending Monyu greetings, the Governor said it is an occasion to mark the end of the old year and welcome the arrival of New Year. It is to pray for a favorable sowing seeds and bountiful harvest.
The main feature of the Monyu is the occasion when the male members of the family show love and renewal of affectionate feelings towards their married daughters or sisters by presenting them purest of the rice-beer and specially prepared food. Such conduct reflects the general status of the Phom women that “they are respected and honored”.
He said the youth need to carry forward the essence of significant of the festival and wished Phom brother and sisters to celebrate with grandeur and in good spirit.
TR Zeliang:
Deputy Chief Minister, TR Zeliang has extended greetings to the Chang, Konyak and Phom community on the occasion of their festivals, Kundanglum, Aoleang and Phom Mongyu respectively. Festivals are celebrated by every Naga tribe with a meaningful narrative and reverence to it.
He wished that success follow throughout the year and all their wishes come true. (Page News Service)
