Governor, CM addresses IRCSN general meeting

Dimapur, September 6: Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya today urged members of the Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland (IRCSN) to donate disaster relief in the State and also motivate the people to do the same since the State is proposing for a central aid of Rs 800 crore as disaster relief and the contribution of fund towards disaster relief on humanitarian ground till date is only Rs 2 crores (approx).
Addressing th 32nd annual general meeting of IRCSN today at the Red Cross Complex, Kohima, the Governor, who is also the IRCSN president, urged IRCSN to follow the seven principles of Red Cross Society and said that during these times when the State is hit by natural calamities and tragedies, it is the right time for the members to motivate themselves and reach out to the affected people by conducting motivational camps, train the people in first aid, rescue operation, setting up health camps, and putting in more efforts to see to the need of the state.
He also cited examples of donors like Sushant Singh Rajput who donated Rs 1.25 crore towards the affected areas and its people.
Stressing on the overall functioning of IRCSN, he said that the members need to be more motivated and enrol more members to the society since there are only three IRCS active districts in the State and the need of IRCS service was most needed during such disasters. He appreciated the good works, services and the motivation rendered by the personnel of the Assam Rifles during such disasters.
Chief Minister, Nagaland and vice president IRCSN, Neiphiu Rio in his address said the Nagaland Red Cross Society has been actively continuing its works in the service of humanity. With the continuing membership drives, extending help to the needy, conducting blood donation camps, motivation campaigns, first-aid trainings and workshops, Indian Red Cross Nagaland chapter has proved that they are second to none when it comes to serving the people.
He mentioned that the annual general meeting is also an opportunity to evaluate our past performances and formulate the plan of actions for the years to come in order to conceive strategies to expand the activities of the Indian Red Cross Society. He also appreciated the Indian Red Cross Society of Nagaland State Branch for donating generously towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and further called upon Red Cross units in all districts to extend helping hands to Deputy Commissioners and District Disaster Management Authority in helping mitigate the crisis. This can be done by organizing health camps and also raising resources for Disaster Relief.
The CM advocated the need to be proactive with regard to disaster management, and the role of Red Cross can be there not only for immediate relief during disasters but also in disaster mitigation and rehabilitation.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by member, IRCSN, Helena Yepthomi. The Governor later had an interactive session with members of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch.
