Dimapur, May 20: Stating that youths of Nagaland have a craze and hunger for education, Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya today called upon universities to play a positive and dominant role in shaping the future of students and to act as centres of development.
The Governor was addressing a meeting with vice chancellors of all universities in Nagaland, principals of various colleges, officers from the School Education and Higher Education Department and vice chancellor Nitte University, Mangaluru in the conference hall of Raj Bhavan Kohima on Monday.
Stating that the ultimate aim of education was to strengthen the society, the Governor called on the educational institutions to analyze on improving the education system in the State to further improve and empower  students so as to compete with others.
“Our products when they come out should be an asset to the society, should be able to stand on their feet and make the economy of the State strong,” he said.
Acharya also announced that Nitte Medical University, Alva’s Education Foundation and Moodlakatte Institute of Technology, in collaboration with Indian National Fellowship Centre, has offered a total number of 129 concessional seats in their institutions. Seats will be available in various courses including nursing, engineering, MBA, pharmacy, journalism, graduate degree courses, masters degree courses and physiotherapy for students of NE, particularly Nagaland. He stated that the details for admission and other information will be announced shortly.
The Governor also encouraged the universities and colleges in the State to partner with other educational institutions of the country and to conduct various programmes for the benefit of the students and national integration.
VC Nitte University, Prof Dr SK Bhandary gave a brief power point presentation on the courses and various activities and achievements of the university during the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary, School Education, Menukhol John and Commissioner & Secretary to Governor, Dinesh Kumar, IAS. (Page News Service)
