GoI focused on development of Northeast: Union MoS Patil

KOHIMA, OCTOBER 29: Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Kapil Moreshwar Patil while asserting that the Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is serious for the development of the Northeastern region, assured all possible help to take Nagaland on the path of progress.
Prime Minister Modi’s focus is on the development and progress of the 8 Northeastern States of the country and transform every village in India in tune with the dream of Mahatma Gandhi, said the Union MoS while addressing a press conference today at de Oriental Grand on the second day of his 2-day visit to the State.


The Central Government is seriously focusing on the development and progress of the Northeast region in general and deliberating on providing special financial grants hence the Union Ministers have been asked to visit Northeastern States to collect information on the implementation of the various Centrally-sponsored schemes for sustainable development of the region, said Patil.
He said that PM Modi’s focal point on the Northeast is to the extent that he always raises concern for the region in his speeches in Parliament, including providing funds for promotion of organic produce of the region.
He informed that the Central Government has provided Rs 185 crore special grant for 2019-20 to the Northeast and Rs 125 crore from the 15th Finance Commission to Nagaland.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana 562 KM road has been sanctioned for the region but there has been no proposal from the Nagaland Government so far to the Central Ministry, he informed.
Patil maintained that the scenic beauty of Nagaland can be capitalised for promoting tourism which will help develop the State’s economy. In this regard the Central Government is ready to extend all possible help, he said.
He also highlighted the Svamvita scheme introduced by the Centre and asked the State Government to ink an MoU with the Ministry. Maintaining that there was positive response to this scheme, he said people will benefit from this as they will be able to make property cards to avail loan out of the documents for construction of houses and carry out business.
Further, the Union MoS said that after Modi became the Prime Minister in 2014, he has enhanced the traditional local bodies development fund to more than Rs 2,36,000 crore for development of villages. It was only Rs 15000 crore in before the Modi Government, he said.
Highlighting on his meeting with political parties in the State, he said that the parties have urged him to be gracious in granting funds for the developmental projects of the State.
In this, asserting to take back positive feedback to the Prime Minister, the Union MoS said the Central Government would provide all possible help to the State Government for the welfare of the people.
The State Government and the Central Government are working hand in hand to ensure the State’s development.
Stressing on the State Government’s slogan, “peace for development and development for peace”, Patil said in order to have good quality life, one needs to have a peaceful atmosphere.


On his interaction with the Village Councils and Village Development Boards of the State, Patil said that there is still much to be done for the uplift of rural areas in the State.
He asked the village councils to apprise the Ministry on various issues and difficulties faced by them in implementing the schemes and programmes at the village and block levels.
He expressed happiness to see that traditional local bodies in Nagaland are performing well in the State, especially women taking active part in it, which he said would immensely help in the State’s progress.
