‘Go Green Mezoma’ plants 600 Cherry trees

Kohima, August 6: The second phase of Cherry Plantations 2020 under the banner “Go Green Mezoma” took place today by planting 600 cherry trees along the road side from National Highway-29 (Hydro) to Mezoma.


A community undertaking project “Go Green Mezoma” is a joint effort of Mezoma Youth Organization, Mezo Basa Youth Organization, Mezoma Students Union, Mezo Basa Students’ Union and supported by Mezoma Village Council.
Started in 2020 with the plantation of 700 cherry trees, it target to have 1600 standing cherry trees along the road side and in around the village within 10 years.
Addressing a brief function, Go Green Mezoma convenor, Khrielievi Chüsi said that the project is an initiative of some like-minded group of Mezoma which was launched last year.
He said that Go Green Mezoma aims to promote biodiversity and protect wildlife for the benefit of the future generations.
It will also go a long way in maintaining a healthy and functional eco-system, he said.
“Ten years from now, we could be able to accomplish 1600 blooming standing cherry trees to add to the beautiful landscape of Mezoma,” he said.
The village council, youth, students including churches are equally active towards this cherry plantation project, he added.


Mezoma Youth Organization president, Zekho Casavi and Mezoma Students’ Union president, Vizhatsü Kehie also spoke at the function led by Go Green Mezoma secretary Rüülhoulie Khawakhrie.
