Girls outshine boys in HSLC, HSSLC 2018

– Vivotsonuo Sorhie tops HSLC with 98.33%
– 27 Govt schools, 5 Pvt schools record nil results
– 36 of 37 students in Toppers List are from Dimapur & Kohima

Dimapur, May 17: Girls outperformed boys in both HSLC 2018 and HSSLC 2018 in the results declared by the Nagaland Board of School Education on Friday.
The HSLC 2018 recorded a pass percentage of 66.01, which is worse than last years pass percentage of 70.19. In 2016 it was 65.42%, 2015 – 63.05%; 2014 – 65.19% and 2013 – 63.51%.
Vivotsonuo Sorhie of Mezhür Hr. Sec. School, Kohima with 98.33% topped the HSLC 2018. In the Top-20 list, there are 37 students out of which 12 are boys and the rest 25 are girls.
The results showed boys (42.06%) faring better than the girls (39.69%) in Government schools while girls (83.90%) did better than boys (81.98%) in private schools. Among repeaters, girls (16.81%) did better than boys (16.74%).
Overall girls faired better in the HSLC 2018 recording 66.04% compared to boys pass percentage of 65.98.
As every year, the pass percentage of Government schools was a disappointment at 40.77, which is worse than last year’s percentage of 42.60. In 2016, Government schools performance was a dismal 32.81%.
A total of 27 Government schools registered nil results with as much as 6 GHS in Kiphire District recording nil results. In 2017 and 2016, 30 GHS had recorded nil results.
However, 12 Government schools registered 100% pass percentage. Six GHS had recorded 100% pass percentage in 2017 and 5 GHS each in 2016 & 2015.
Five private schools, two in Mokokchung District and one each in Dimapur, Phek and Zunheboto registered nil results.
An in what is an indication that Kohima and Dimapur is increasingly becoming the educational hub in the State, 36 of the 37 students placed in the Top-20 list is from Kohima (15) and Dimapur (21). The lone student from other district is Top 12 placed Sentilong Walling (95.17%) from Queen Mary Hr. Sec. School, Mokokchung.
HSSLC 2018
The Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) 2018 Arts Stream recorded a total pass percentage of 73.42, which is much worse than 2017 percentage of 77.28. In 2016, the pass percentage was 72.10, 2015 – 69.91 and in 2014 – 71.89.
In Commerce Stream, the total pass percentage is 73.75%, which is an improvement from last year’s 70.92%. In 2016, it was 73.80%, 2015 – 66.86% and 2014 – 80.70%.
In Science Stream, the pass percentage is 84.39, which is worse than last year 86.94%. In 2016 it was 82.46%, 2015 – 79.64% and 2014 – 82.24%.
Benrithung L Jungio of Don Bosco Hr. Sec. School, Wokha topped the Arts stream with 91.40%, Marina Yashmin of Pranab Vidyapith Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur with 97.20% topped the Commerce Stream and Virienuo Emilia Solo of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma with 91.60% topped the Science Stream.
Overall the girls pass percentage is 79.87 while the boys pass percentage is 70.44.
