Dimapur, November 22: The Garo tribe celebrated Wangala, a post harvest festival, thanksgiving to Misi-Saljong (Sun God) for rich harvest of its tribe under the supervision of Nagaland Garo Tribal Council (NGTC) in different Garo villages and units of Dimapur district.
The NGTC said the festival could not be celebrated in one common venue due to non-sanctioning of Mini-Hornbill fund by the department concern and the state government, but all the Garo villages and units (Eralibill, Samaguri, Dubagaon, Ekranipathar, Darogapathar villages, Dimapur town unit and Chumoukedima unit celebrated the festival in a befitting manner.
The NGTC hoped that the government would listen to its plight and give due share after the festival.
Different items like indigenous games, folk songs, Chu (rice beer) making and traditional Wangala dance were performed and displayed at the festival.
