Fund misappropriated under LM&CP Dept refunded

Dimapur, October 9: RTI Initiative Nagaland has disclosed that a sum of Rs 29,72,789 was recovered and reimbursed to Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection Department. The amount was earlier misappropriated on different occasion in various projects.
In a press release, RTI activist, Odi Jamir and S T Yapang Longkumer stated that on 7th March 2011, Rs. 10 lakhs were sanction for setting up of Consumer Club in 100 schools. The department, however, disbursed Rs. 10000 each to 35 schools only. So the remaining amount of Rs. 6,50,000 only would be disburse to the remaining 65 schools before the end of this year i.e. 2019.
The department will provide a copy of beneficiaries list to the RTI Initiative Nagaland office, they stated.
The release stated that on 6th June 2012 the department was purchasing 5 nos. of Thermometer Verification Kit as per the department record, but could produce only 2 thermometer verification kit details. So the department have order the 3 remaining Thermometer Verification Kit at the cost of Rs. 9,62,789 and will arrive shortly.
The RTI Initiative further stated that the department selected Ashlin Enterprises, Pune for the construction of 2 Calibration Tower at the cost of Rs. 26,92,300. However, after completion of one tower, the department on 10th May 2012 released full amount of Rs. 26,92,300 which was meant for construction of 2 calibration towers.
So they have returned the amount for the construction of the 2nd Tower amounting to Rs. 14 lakhs. However, it is not feasible to construct a calibration tower with the said amount.
The department on 12th April 2012 purchased Coin Operated Person Weighing Machine purchased at the cost of Rs. 20 lakhs which appeared suspicious earlier. However, despite being late, the department have produced the beneficiaries list and thus satisfied by their reply.
