FPAI Nagaland branch observes 69th Foundation Day


Kohima, July 23: Nagaland today joined the 69th Foundation Day celebration of Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) with a call to advocate for gender equality and empowerment for all including the poor and vulnerable people.
The call was made by FAI Nagaland Branch president James Liezietsu during the formal celebration of the day at RHFOC Satellite Centre in Kohima tonight.
Exhorting the gathering, James recalled that in1947, when India became independent fertility was high with couples averaging six children. He reminded the esteemed volunteers, staffs, friends and well wishers on FPA India’s mission to advocate for gender equality and empowerment for all including the poor and vulnerable people.
He said that FPAI is responsible to ensure information, education, and services while also empowering knowledge, innovation, and technology towards sustainable development.
He expressed that the vision of FPAI is that everybody is empowered to enjoy their sexual and reproductive health choices and rights, free from stigma and discrimination.
“Today FPA India is proud to be associated with Australian Aid, Engineers India Limited, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, European Union, Bharat Cement and Government of India besides a host of other funding partners with more than 23 different projects implemented across India,” he said.
At the local level, the FPAI Nagaland Branch president said, “We are grateful and happy to be associated with different allied Government Departments of Nagaland in sponsoring our Programs and activities”.
He also requested everyone to join and support the Association.
General Manager of FPAI Nagaland Branch, Vincent Belho recalled that the activism of some committed women in the early Independence day era evolved into Family Planning Association of India in 1949 and since then each decade has been marked by FPA India’s pioneering growth and work.
He informed that FPA India, Nagaland Branch today runs a clinic called Reproductive Health & Family Planning Clinic (RHFPC) at Daklane in the main town of Kohima city besides a Satellite Centre at NSF Martyrs Park.
The RHFPC at Daklane is manned by full time medical team and provides services on sexual reproductive Health issues, Gynaecological matters, Contraceptives services, MTP services, he said, adding that the FPA India Nagaland Branch is perhaps the only NGO service delivery point registered with Health Department to provide the services.
“Our focus continues with family planning and adolescence sexuality education both in formal and non-formal sector,” he said, adding that the satellite centre provides all Mother & Child Immunisation services and free contraceptives services and counselling on family planning.
The FPAI Nagaland Branch also conducts outreach medical and awareness services throughout Nagaland, he said.
