Former MLA L Khumo dies


DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 20: Former Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly L Khumo passed away on Tuesday morning at his private residence in Purana Bazaar, Dimapur. He was 52.
The two-time MLA first entered the NLA after winning the 57-Thonoknyu seat in 2013 as an NCP candidate. He was then appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Land Revenue, Village Guards and Women Resource Development.
His re-election in 2018 was on NPP ticket, following which he was assigned Advisor to Fisheries, Evaluation, Economics and Statistics. Khumo lost in the 2023 elections as an LJP candidate.
Sources said that after a funeral service at his residence in Purana Bazaar, the mortal remains were taken to his native village for last rites, which will take place on Wednesday.
Khumo is survived by his wife and 4 children.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed grief at the demise of L Khumo, former Advisor and Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on February 20 at Dimapur.
Stating that his demise is a great loss to the Nagas, in general, and to the Khiamniungan community in particular, Rio stated that the vacuum created by his absence will be difficult to fill. Rio, on behalf of the Government of Nagaland and on behalf of his family, extended deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
NLA: Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer expressed grief at the demise of L Khumo, former Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly, today at Dimapur following brief illness.
A two-time Member, Late L Khumo became Member of the 12th and 13 Houses of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 5 7-Thonoknyu Assembly Constituency.
On behalf of the Members of the 14th House, the Speaker conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved family members.
ENLU: The Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) has expressed pain at the sudden demise of L. Khumo Khiamniungan, Ex-MLA on February 20 morning.
“His dedication to public service and his compassion for the people will always be remembered. May the legacy of Late. Khumo continue to inspire and his memory be cherished by all who knew them,” it said.
ENLU also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
KTC: The Khiamniungan Tribal Council has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Lt. L Khumo Khiamniungan, former Advisor, who passed away on February 20. The council also prayed for his soul to rest in eternal peace. (Page News Service)
