Dimapur, November 9: Former Minister K. Yamakam, father of Advisor, SCERT, IPR and Village Guards, Toshi Wungtung passed away Friday at Zion Hospital Dimapur after a brief illness.
Born in 1929, late Yamakam dedicated his entire life in the service of the people and was instrumental in the establishment of many of the Yimchunger civil society organisations. Late Yamakam served as a Dobashi under the ADC Shamator from 1952 and was later appointed as Head Dobashi in 1976 following which he decided to involve himself in active politics and was successfully elected four consecutive times (1989, 1993, 1998 & 2003) to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the 58th Shamator-Chessore assembly constituency and served as a Minister of State (1993-1998) and later as a Cabinet Minister (1998-2003).
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed grief at the demise of former Minister and 4 times MLA K. Yamakam, father of Advisor, SCERT, IPR and Village Guards, Toshi Wungtung on Friday.
“In his demise, we have lost a people’s leader and a fatherly figure who will be remembered fondly. Rio said while conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
LoO: Leader of Opposition, TR Zeliang has expressed grief at the demise of K Yamakam Yimchunger, former Minister, and father of Toshi Wongtung, Adviser, IPR, SCERT and VGs.
“His demise is a great loss not only to the Yimchunger community but the Nagas in general,” he said.
Zeliang extended deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
MP LS: MP Lok Sabha, Tokheho has also expressed grief at the passing of Yamakam, former Minister.
Late Yamakam was one of the senior most statesman of our state. His demise leaves a social and political vacuum for the people of our state, he said in a condolence message
The MP conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
NDPP: The NDPP has expressed grief over the demise of former Minister, K Yamakam, and father of Toshi Wungtong, MLA and Advisor IPR, SCERT and Village Guards at Zion Hospital Dimapur on Friday after a brief illness.
“Throughout his life he served the people with humility and dedication and was known for his simplicity and statesmanship. In his passing the Yimchungers in particular and the Nagas in general have lost a great leader and an octogenarian,” it said in a condolence message.
The NDPP rank and file expressed deepest condolences to Toshi Wungtong and the family members and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
CL John: MLA, CL John has expressed shock and grief at the demise of former Minister K Yamakam.
“During his span of life, he was proved, undoubtedly one of the sincere, hardworking and bonafide citizen as well as one of a competent public leader in his own capacity with integrity, accountable and vast wisdom. It would therefore be very difficult to fill the vacuum caused by his death and his service to the Yimchunger community in particular and to Nagas in general,” he said.
The MLA extended deepest sorrow and sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
NPP: National People’s Party has expressed grief at the demise of former Minister, K Yamakam, and father of Toshi Wungtong, MLA and Advisor, IPR, SCERT and Village Guards, at Zion Hospital, Dimapur on Friday after a brief illness.
In a condolence message, NPP President Ato Yepthomi said that late Late Yamakam was a true statesman, who was known for his simplicity. In his passing away, the Yimchungers in particular and the Nagas in general have lost a great leader.
The NPP rank and file expressed deepest condolences to his family members and prayed to God Almighty grant them solace and strength to bear the loss.
YTC: The Yimchungrü Tribal Council (YTC) has condoled the demise of Late. K Yamakam, Former Minister Government of Nagaland, who passed away at Zion Hospital Dimapur today.
In the condolence message, the YTC state that Late K Yamakam, former minister an upright and legendary figure and a founding member of Yimchungrü Tribal Council YTC who dedicated his entire life for the greater welfare of the Yimchungrü’s Society and they are the one who established Shamator town as head quarters of Yimchungrüs.
Stating that in his death, the YTC has lost a fatherly figure and the vacuum created by his death would be hard to fill, it prayed that the departed soul rest in peace.
