Forest fire razes jhum land in Wokha

Dimapur, April 8: Hundreds of acre of Jhum land and forest were destroyed in a major fire at Vankhosung area in Wokha on Tuesday night. However, no casualty was reported in the fire.
According to State Fire & Emergency Services, on receiving a fire call at Humtso Road, Vankhosung area, Wokha, on April 7 at 12:58 pm, Fire & Emergency Services mobilized a quick response team from Fire Station Wokha to control fire. However due to difficulty of terrain and the magnanimity of the fire, several trips of fire tenders were utilized to contain the fire from spreading towards Helipad and Mission Compound, Vankhosung, which continue till midnight.
The Wokha District administration, police, SDRF, Home Guards, Civil Defence and public also joined the fire fighting with the fire personnel and brought the fire under control and from further spreading.
The response team was led by Keleseho Stephen, OC and Duty Commander, ASI Hayang.
