
Dimapur, April 1: Tuensang Forest Division conducted an awareness programme and training on forest fire prevention and management on March 31 at CKS conference hall, Tuensang.
A press release from DFO Tuensang informed that the programme witnessed a good turn up from various villages, NGOs, allied departments and Forest staff.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Ajay Verma stressed on the importance of collaboration among the villages and to combine traditional methods with technical help from the Department to prevent forest fire.
SDPO Tuensang, Kanchan impressed upon the dependence of villagers in the forest and the responsibilities of preventing forest fire involving community participation, which is so common in Nagaland.
In her introductory speech, Dr. C Zupeni Tsanglai, Divisional Forest Officer of Tuensang Division, highlighted the responsibilities of villagers to work in collaboration with the Forest Department for preventing and managing forest fires. She appreciated the efforts of the villagers for timely monitoring and intervention which is helping in preventing the forest fires in the district despite the vulnerability due to practice of jhumming.
For the benefit of the villagers, a printed document on ‘Forest Fire Prevention and Management’ in three dialects-Chang, Sangtam and Yimchunger-was handed over to the participants.
In the second session, the first presentation on Fire prevention was given by C Renbenthung, cfficer-in-charge of Fire Brigade, Tuensang and the second PowerPoint presentation on forest fire prevention and management was given by Imtimar, Range Officer, Noklak.
Altogether 90 members attended the programme, out of which 50 were JFMC members from 25 villages. (Page News Service)
