Tuensang, January 14: The football tournament organized by the Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) in collaboration with Khiamniungan Sports Council (KSC) which commenced on January 5 concluded at the public ground, Noklak under the theme “Invigorating the Talent”.
The special guest of the tournament’s grand finale was Liang, President, National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP 57) Thonoknyu. Speaking on the occasion, Liang encouraged all the teams to be progressive and to always strive to do better. Addressing the players, he expressed, “Play in good spirit and discipline. Have a vision to play at higher levels and excel”. He also encouraged all the teams to persevere and be of good faith not only during tournaments but at all times.
The event was chaired by Pongchiu. M. Luzo, Associate Pastor Youth, Longdon Baptist Church Noklak Town, and opening remark was given by K. Okie, Vice President, KSC.Thaishai. T performed a special number and S. Sheying, Games and Sports Secretary, KSU said the vote of thanks. Benediction was pronounced by P.M. Lamthai, Treasurer, KSU.
The final match was played between Thang Nokyen Students Union and Thang Students’ Union. TNSU team emerged as the champion of the final match scoring 3 against 1. Individual prizes were also awarded to the following individuals- Golden ball:Pushong (Thang Students’ Union), Golden boot:Muthiu (TNSU) and Golden Glove: Hatho (PathsoNokeng Students’ Union).
Earlier in the morning, a marathon and crowbow competition was held. The first, second, third prize in the women category were won by Tsuchoi T (KusongTsamveHoikam), Songmo P (Thangnokyan Students’ Union) and Shongmou S. Khiamniungan (Sanglao Students’ Union) respectively. In the male category, ShiangjiuT. Khiamniungan (Sanglao Students’ Union), K. NgouKhiamniungan (Sanglao Students’ Union) and Puchong N. (WolamNyuking Students’ Union) won the first, second and third prizes respectively.
ThangemChio (NokhuNokeng Students’ Union), Yaolai (Aniangan Students’ Union) and Pupoi (PathsoNokeng Students’ Union) were the first, second and third prize winners of the crossbow competition.
