Football body faces contempt charges

Imphal, June 19: Manipur High Court has initiated contempt of court proceedings against the All Manipur Football Association for failing to comply with its directives.
The contempt of court proceedings was moved by Senior Advocate H Hemchandra Singh on behalf of petitioner K Chungneithang Chiru of FC Zalen, who moved the case along with 8 representatives from the Manipur State League team.
The Manipur State League Participating Team Forum said the Registrar of Cooperative Societies had directed the All Manipur Football Association to hold fresh elections owing to late submission of its last annual general body proceedings and other relevant documents.
However, the Association has continued to ignore the order and continued to issue memorandums and carry on with players’ transfers.
According to the order by Registrar of Cooperative Societies calling for fresh election, the AMFA’s executive had no moral right to issue memorandums, the Forum said. The Association is registered under the Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
The Forum added that the Association had called for an annual general body meeting on June 22 according to its office memorandum issued on May 13.
The Court directive said the reply to the notice should be sent by July 18. (TTNE)
