Food Safety on Wheels conducts sport testing


Dimapur, May 20: Commissioner & Secretary cum Commissioner for Food Safety Nagaland Himato Zhimomi, IFS along with Dr Obangjungla, Deputy Director, Dr K Vikato Kinimi, Chief Medical Officer Dimapur, Dr Khesheto Zhimo, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Dimapur, Dr Antoly, Deputy CMO, Dr Rebecca, DPO (RCH/UIP), Sendong Jamir, FSO Dimapur, Samuel, FSO Phek, Khrukutolu Veswuh, Food Analyst, State Public Health Laboratory and team of Food Safety on Wheels conducted spot testing of food items.
Himato Zhimomi along with the officers visited New Market’s Fish Market and fruit stalls where samples for testing were acquired. He stated that testing for adulterants on food items was conducted for the safety of the public. He further stated that the public were paying a high price for food items and also paying dearly with their health by consuming food items tainted with adulterants.
The testing conducted by the team of Food Safety on Wheels is a preliminary spot testing of food items for standard confirmation under the FSSAI rules and regulations. The Food Safety on Wheels will serve as a mobile food testing unit and will be used to for public education and for conducting awareness programs. The mobile lab will have fully functional testing facilities that could be used for quick qualitative testing and for detection of common adulterants in foods and to spread awareness of food safety and hygiene.
