Dimapur, March 8: As Nagaland Government is set to hold yet another consultative meet on Wednesday, the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs) has advised it to focus on ‘Nagaland State issues and governance’ and leave the subject of Naga political issue to the Centre and Naga negotiators.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Committee appreciated the State Government for taking the views of Nagaland tribes, civil societies and non-Naga indigenous communities on issues confronting the Government and the people.
“Broad exchanges of views on matters such as Urban Local Body (ULB) elections, Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act are very important.
“On the Indo-Naga political issue, the WC, NNPGs, while appreciating the effort of the State Government as facilitators, is firm that since the Government of India (GoI) and the Naga negotiating groups have concluded the political talks officially on October 31, 2019; and Naga tribes having accepted this announcement, all apex tribal bodies of Nagaland, customary institutions and civil societies have, time and again, demanded GoI to ink an inclusive agreement without further delay”, read the statement.
Therefore, it maintained, any State-sponsored discussion on Naga political issue, outside this parameter, would be a misnomer and unqualified.
“The State Government may focus on Nagaland State issues and governance. The subject of Naga political issue is best left to GoI and Naga negotiators, mandated by the people, to usher in honourable and acceptable political solution at the earliest”, it stated.
