First Catholic Priest ordained from Nsong


Dimapur, January 17: Reverend Deacon Peter Pehiachanglu was ordained a Priest for the Diocese of Kohima on January 15 at St. Peter’s Chruch, Nsong under SFS Parish, Tening, Peren District by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima.

Deacon Peter dressed in the traditional Zeliang attire came in procession accompanied by the clan and Family members.
Bishop in his introduction said that it is a red letter day for the Catholic Community of St. Peter’s Church Nsong, to the diocese of Kohima and also for Deacon Peter, because he will be ordained a priest. As a priest he will set apart and consecrated to God’s work and His mission. Dn. Peter will assume a new role and identity – the role and identity of a Catholic priest.
In his Homily Bishop also explained the prophetic, pastoral and priestly role of a priest.
The bishop exhorted the Deacon Peter to remember that it is to be his life-work to lift up Jesus Christ before men, so that He may draw them unto Him.
Bishop concluded his homily by thanking, particularly, the family and relatives of Fr. Peter for offering him to God and to the Church.
The felicitation programme witnessed voice of congratulations by the SFS Parish Youth, Tening. Words of exhortation and encouragements were pronounced by Bishop and Johny Raungmei, President Catholic Association of Nagaland.
Fr. Peter, the newly ordained Priest thanked all.
It is also recorded that Fr. Peter is the fourth son of the thirteen siblings. Sr. Sharon the eldest sister of Rev. Fr. Peter acknowledged the presence of the all on behalf of the family.
Rev. Fr. Dominic Kwettrangging, the Assistant Priest of St. Paul’s Church, Pungro anchored as the Master of Ceremony of the Ordination Rite and Sr. Rufina CMC was the commentator respectively. Meanwhile Rev. Fr. Paul Panii, the Parish Priest, SFS, Tening accorded the words of welcome to the Most Rev.
It is also noted that the diocese of Kohima has now 112 ordained Priests with Fr. Peter as the youngest priest in the diocese. He is the 5th Zeliang priests to be ordained from Nagaland.
