Fire and Evacuation Drill conducted in Zunheboto

Dimapur, August 2: Disaster Management Committee, Zunheboto Government College in collaboration with National Fire and Emergency Service Zunheboto conducted “Fire and Evacuation Drill” programme at auditorium Zunheboto Government college on July 30.
Principal ZGC, Dr. Nishena Neikha said there are possibilities of major disaster if we are ignorant and it can be prevented or minimised through awareness.
Inspector Yohank Konyak, OC Fire station Zunheboto gave a brief highlight on disaster preparedness, addressing the congregation he said the National Fire and Emergency Service is always prepared and ready for rescues not only for fire disaster but all sort of emergencies. It is the need of the congregation of the event to spread awareness to the ignorant. Communication and education is the best tool to spread awareness, he added.
Asst. Sub. Inspector, Imti Chingmak Chang defined evacuation as “to move away from a place of immediate dangers as quickly as possible to a safer place where you can hide until the threat no longer exist or help arrives.”
He demonstrated the types of fire and the types of fire extinguishers to be used accordingly. He further stressed on the preventive measures of fire hazards. The rescue drill was followed by his team after his demonstration.
The programme was chaired by Mutunelu Soho, Asst. professor and member Disaster Management committee team. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Khezhadi Leno, Asst. Professor and Convenor Disaster Management Committee.
An essay writing competition on the theme “Fire Prevention Is Better than Fire Fighting” was also organised on the same day at Geography laboratory room and the prizes for the winners will be sponsored by Directorate of Fire and Emergency Department, Government of Nagaland. (Page News Service)
