Filing of nomination papers in eastern districts is Neiphiu Rio-led Govt.’s way of exacting revenge for LS defeat: RPP

Nagaland News

DIMAPUR, JUNE 12: The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has said that the filing of nomination papers in eastern districts despite a call for abstention from this year’s ULB elections from ENPO was the Neiphiu Rio-led Government’s way of exacting revenge for the defeat suffered in the Lok Sabha elections.
“After ensuring that the issue of Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) was scuttled, the NDPP/BJP coalition surely orchestrated the latest outrage whereby the writ of ENPO was undermined in the form of NDPP/BJP candidates filing their nominations in the various ULBs of eastern Nagaland”, it stated in a press release issued on Wednesday.
According to the RPP, the “genesis of betrayal by the NDPP/BJP coalition” started when the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had asked Nagaland Government for its opinion on the FNT Draft Working Paper (DWP) before December 31, 2023; only for the latter to sit on it without a response.
“An enraged ENPO exposed the diabolic policy of CM Neiphiu Rio’s Government through various press statements and decided to abstain from the LS polls, which was historic.
“This latest betrayal by Rio’s Government is nothing but an act of retribution by the NDPP/BJP coalition who were utterly humiliated by Mr. Supongmeren Jamir’s victory”, the statement read.
It stated that Rio, “aided by his rubber stamp President Chingwang Konyak”, had fooled “the ENPO people” twice.
“Mr. Chingwang Konyak, the President of the NDPP, and a former talk team member of ENPO, could have stopped the NDPP candidates from filing their nominations but it’s apparent that he chose to betray his own people.
“The Rising People’s Party condemns the divide and rule policy of the NDPP-BJP coalition Government whereby the ENPO has been utterly humiliated and made to lose credibility in the eyes of the Naga people”, it stated. (Page News Service)
