Kohima, November 12: Minister for Health & Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom expressed optimism that with October 31 decision of the Centre and Naga groups on Naga political issue solution for long outstanding issue would be achieved soon.
“A new chapter and new era is going to start for Nagas, specially the youngsters and therefore Nagas will have to understand and respect each other,” Pangnyu said while speaking as the special guest during the Eastern Yingnyu Union Kohima (EYUK) silver jubilee celebrations at DUDA Guest House here.
Touching on the different Naga culture and tradition, the Minister said it depicts unity in diversity with different tribes having their tradition and culture while every tribe remains under their respective tribal hohos.
In this, he said that though spread in different areas and districts one should not forget their roots.
Youngsters should follow suit the tradition and culture of togetherness which will earn respect and honour from other community, he said.
Also appreciating phom people from Longleng district for maintaining unity and oneness as well as uphold the tradition and culture, he said youngsters should follow suit the tradition and culture of togetherness which will earn respect and honour from other community.
He said the coming together of seven villages – Sakshi, Yimchang, Anching, Yongphang, Yangching, Pongo and Hungnyu as EYUK is a big example for others to emulate.
The Minister went on to state that jubilee should be a time of realization by looking back into the past achievement as well as failures and planning the future for overall uplift of the society, tribe and Naga community in general.
Expressing that with modernity and Information Technology invasion the world has become a global village, he encouraged young educated youths to contribute ideas and knowledge for the welfare of Nagas as a whole.
The Minister also released the jubilee souvenir on the occasion.
President Phom Union Kohima Y. P. Along, Chairman of VCC and VDB Association Sakshi Area P. Bungnga and first treasurer L Bangshing also exhorted the Phom people living in Kohima to remain united and sincerely work towards the backwardness tag.
EYUK president T K Metchei delivered the welcome address while Associate Pastor of Kohima Phom Baptist Church H Paman Büchem offered prayers, special number by P. S. Anyak Phom and votes of thanks by Chairman jubilee planning committee C. Danted Phom.
