Excise tightens measure to check flow of liquor into State


Dimapur, March 26: In anticipation of increased liquor inflow into Nagaland in view of the Lok Sabha election and the by-election to the Aonglenden assembly constituency, the State Excise Department has tightened security checks and measures various strategic points in an effort to prevent suspected movement of all illegal consignment at both intra and interstate level.
Commissioner of Excise, Tarep Imchen informed that so far in the period between March 12 and April 25, the department as part of the Election Expenditure Monitoring (EEM) measures has conducted a total of 309 raids across the State.
During the enforcement exercise, 2,078 litres of IMFL were seized having a net worth of Rs 7,27,394 in terms of street value. Also 8,033 litres of country liquor of net street value Rs 8,83,630 were also destroyed on the spot from various location. Further 425 bottles of Codeine based cough syrup were recovered during the frisking process.
The excise commissioner informed that 175 persons were booked under relevant sections of the NLTP Act’ 89 and D&C Act’1940. Fine amount realized from compounding the liquor offence was Rs 1,87,500.
