Ex-servicemen rally held at Kohima


Dimapur, May 9: An ex-servicemen (ESM) rally was organized at Kohima Garrision ground today for Defense Forces and Assam Rifles from Nagaland. More than 650 ESM of Defense Forces and Assam Rifles attended the rally. It is for the first time such a rally to include Defense Forces and Assam Rifles for the entire state of Nagaland was conducted.
The ESM rally included information kiosks manned by representative of pension authorities, pay and accounts offices, recruiting office, Assam Rifles ex-servicemen association (ARESA), Rajya & Zila Sainik Boards, State Bank of India and HDFC Bank. The veterans also thronged various stalls put up in collaboration with State Government Department like Skill Development, Horticulture, Agriculture, Fishery and Kohima State Legal Services. Attendees were also appreciative of on the spot facilities of Mobile Sim cards, Aadhar card, Pan card, Canteen Stores Department and Field Post Office. These kiosks not only remedied their complaints but also provided information about finance and investment scheme and employment opportunities for themselves and their dependents.
Medical and dental camp attended to a myriad of ailments and was manned by general practitioners doctors, as also medical, ENT, eye, ortho and dental specialists who also disbursed free medicines to the veterans.
The chief guest of the rally, Maj Gen PC Nair, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) addressed the veterans and felicitated 37 disabled soldiers with wheel chairs, hearing aids, walking sticks and stitching machines. All attendees were also gifted with blankets, shawls, caps, veteran badges and information pamphlets. Five World War II Naga veterans were also specially honoured.
KDLSA: The Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) set up legal awareness stall during the Assam Rifles ex-servicemen rally held on May 9 at IGAR (North) ground.
Panel lawyers from KDLSA rendered their service to more than 150 beneficiaries which included ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, widows and veterans by way of drafting affidavits, free legal advices and counseling. The district authority also undertook stall to stall visitation and distributed free legal literacy booklets and pamphlets.
Ex-servicemen from entire Nagaland State attended the rally, and KDLSA also rendered the service by educating the participants and their dependents regarding various benefits and schemes. (Page News Service)
