Dimapur, February 21: Former MLA Khakheho Sukhalu passed away today at Eden Hospital, Dimapur after a prolonged illness. He was 62.
Born on 17th July, 1957, late Khakheho contested the Nagaland Legislative Assembly election in 1988 from Zunheboto town constituency as an Independent candidate and was successful in his first attempt.
Late Khakheho was also founding member of the NDPP and served as senior vice president till his death.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed shock and grief at the untimely demise of Khakheho Sukhalu, former MLA, today after a prolonged illness, saying his death at such a young age is a big loss for the people of Nagaland, particularly for the people of Zunheboto District.
“He was a close friend and a strong supporter of mine. His demise is a great loss not only to our party and the people of Nagaland but it is also a personal loss to me. I will miss his presence and his mature advice at this crucial juncture,” he said.
The CM, on his own behalf, and on behalf of the Government of Nagaland, conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
TR Zeliang: Opposition leader TR Zeliang has also expressed pain at the demise of Kakheho Sukhalu, ex-MLA today at Eden Hospital, Dimapur.
Hailing from Kawoto village under Zunheboto District, late Kakheho Sukhalu proved his worth as a student leader, a businessman, a sportsman and later as a politician. He successfully contested the 9th general election held in 1998 as an Independent candidate from 35 Zunheboto A/C. “He was a leader who dedicated his service for the
cause of his people and his demise is a great loss,” he said.
Zeliang extended deepest condolences to all the bereaved family members, and prayed that the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
NLA Speaker: Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer has expressed grief at the demise of ex-MLA, Khakheho on February 21 at Eden Hospital, Dimapur, saying his death has caused a great loss to the Nagas in general and the Sumi commuity in particular.
Born on 17-07-1957, late Khakheho was a hardworking and devoted man who worked sincerily for the welfare and upliftment of his constituency and for the people of Nagaland, the NLA Speaker said.
The Speaker conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.

NDPP: The NDPP has expressed grief at the demise of Kakheho Sukhalu Friday afternoon at Dimapur after a prolonged illness.
“I have had the opportunity to have closely worked with him during the formation of NDPP and I found him to be a very sincere and dedicated person who seemed to be forever concerned for the uplift of the society. Hailing from an illustrious family, he was a meek, humble and very approachable person liked by young and old who have met him,” said NDPP president Chingwang Konyak.
“In the passing away of Kakheho, the Naga society in general and the NDPP in particular have lost a very efficient and charismatic person,” he said.

LS MP: Lok Sabha MP, Tokheho Yepthomi has condoled the demise of Kakheho Sukhalu, former MLA and Vice-President NDPP.
He said Nagas have lost a very dedicated public leader and his absence will be deeply felt in the NDPP and Zunheboto district in particular.
He prayed to God to grant courage to the bereaved family to face this adversity.
NPCC: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed shock at the demise of Kakheho Sukhalu, ex-MLA and vice president, NDPP today at Dimapur.
“In his passing away, the irreparable loss is not only to his family but also to the people of the state who have lost a tall and able leader in his prime,” said NPCC president K Therie.

“A visionary leader of our times, Late Shri Kakheho Sukhalu was a man of rare political acumen, courage and immense wisdom. His loss has left a deep void in the political fraternity of Nagaland in particular and the Naga society in general which will be hard to fill in days to come,” it said.
NSCN (R): Vice president of NSCN/GPRN (Reformation), Akato Chophi through MIP has expressed pain and sorrow at the demise of Kakheho Sukhalu, ex-MLA on February 21.
“The late leader was a force to reckon with, who was a broad minded frontrunner in both social and political fields, and leaves behind his legacy as a gentleman and an officer for his progeny and his friends to cherish on,” Akato said.
