Dimapur, August 5: The Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) has demanded resumption of school building construction works in four villages – GMS Viyilho, GMS Kelto, GMS Shevishe and GMS Ngozubomi under SDEO Aghunato – on or before August 20.
The construction of the school buildings should be done strictly as per the work order specification including the ramps/handrails for children with special needs, rainwater harvesting facility, furniture, play material, fire extinguishers and electrification, it demanded.
In a press release, the ESSU said after it highlighted the issue of incomplete and abandoned school building constructions in the four villages through the media on June 26, the Assistant District Coordinator, Samagra Shiksha, District Mission Authority Zunheboto (DMAZ) called a meeting on July 1, but the ESSU did not attend the meeting as it was not convened by the competent authority.
However, it said the DMAZ went ahead with the meeting with some SMC members, and a head teacher “cheating them of the presence of Deputy Commissioner/Chairman District Education Committee and District Education Officer/ District Project Coordinator in the meeting and adopted the resolutions as per their conveniences” which was condemned and nullified on August 1 ion a joint meeting of village councils, GBs, school management committees, village students’ union and ESSU.
ESSU said it had written a representation to the Principal Director of School Education Dated 5th July requesting to initiate steps for the early completion of school building projects and to punish the offenders involved in the case.
The release informed that ESSU received an official order from the State Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland Education Mission Society (NEMS) regarding “Non completion of construction of 4 SSA School buildings under Aghunato Sub Division”, but said the affected village authorities and the union cannot accept the solution, as the order states “You (DEO) are therefore requested to immediately visit the location of the four incomplete school buildings and initiate action for completion of the school buildings. The resolution of the School Management Committees of these four schools taken recently regarding the timeline for completion of the construction”. The union said it cannot accept the solution taken on the basis of resolutions adopted on 1st July 2020 unofficial meeting.
Considering the issue, the ESSU while demanding resumption of construction of school buildings in the four villages on or before August 20, also demanded that the offenders be penalized on or before August 20 and ESSU office intimated in written form regarding the action taken.
If steps are not initiated as demanded, the union shall take its own course of action, the release cautioned. (Page News Service)
