Ensure safety & security of journalists: IJU demands Nagaland Govt

Dimapur, May 8: Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has expressed serious concern at the assault on Prasanjit Dutta, a reporter with Nagaland Page by a police officer in Dimapur on May 8 and demanded Nagaland government to respect freedom of media and media rights especially at a time when journalists of the country are working relentlessly covering situation arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic.
IJU further demanded the state government to ensure safety and security of journalists of the state. IJU asked the state government to punish the GRP officer involved in the incident.
IJU joined hand with Nagaland Press Association, Dimapur Press Club and Kohima Press Club in condemning the assault on Dutta while he was returning from his duty on May 8 at Dimapur.
According to journalists bodies of Nagaland, Prasanjit Dutta was slapped, abused and intimidated by a GRP officer at the Dimapur Railway Station on Friday even when he identified himself as a journalist.
