ENPO to hold referendum on statehood

Kohima, September 13: Intensifying its statehood, the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) will conduct a “public referendum” on Friday at Tuensang.
The ENPO, the umbrella organisation of six tribes in eastern Nagaland, said during the rally they will organised a public referendum to reiterate their demand for a “Frontier Nagaland” State. A public rally is being organised at Tuensang town by the ENPO to reaffirm their demand for a separate State.
Representatives from tribes and other frontal organisations will also speak during the rally.
The ENPO consists of five districts – Mon, Longleng, Tuensang, Kiphire and newly created Noklak district.
The State Government has already rejected their demand but under the aegis of ENPO rallies have been held from time to time and representations and memorandums to the Union Government. So far there has been no positive response from the Centre, except assuring of speedy development of eastern Nagaland, which ENPO claimed has been neglected and discriminated.
The offer of autonomy by the State Government has also been rejected. (Page News Service)
