Enhance NGOs registration renewal period to 5 years: NNF

Dimapur, July 24: The Nagaland NGOs Forum (NNF) has appealed to the Government of Nagaland to enhance NGOs registration renewal period from 2 years to 5 years.
In a representation to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, NNF president Dr Hesheto Y Chishi and general secretary Chenithung Humtsoe maintained that the societies registration renewal period, which is now only for 2 years is inexpedient as the system of the renewal process should not go along in line with commercial or trade license system as it is non-profit organization in nature.
The NNF said to check and detach non-functional NGOs by means of reducing renewal period to 2 years period is not proper mechanism and unfair to all the functional NGOs who are assisting the Government in multifarious activities.
“Due to the limited period of renewal year, the functional NGOs faces certain legality constrains in many communities based long-term projects of both governmental and non=governmental sectors,” it said.
The NNF strongly appealed to the CM to initiate deliberation on the issue in the ensuing assembly session and legislate an Act to enhance the NGO registration renewal period to five years instead of two years. (Page News Service)
