Engineers’ Day observed in Nagaland

Dimapur, September 15: Along with rest of the nation, the office of Engineer-in-Chief, NPWD observed 52nd Engineers Day on the theme “Engineering for Change” on September 15 at Engineer-in-Chief Conference Hall, NPWD Complex, Kohima.
In a keynote address, Er. Kahuli Sema, Engineer-in-Chief, NPWD greeted all the Engineers, subordinate staffs and officials on 52nd Engineers day and expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the occasion.
Sema gave glory and honour to the “engineer of the engineers”, the “architect of the architects” and said that God has beautifully created heaven and earth but he has assigned mankind to develop the world and thus created engineers and she quoted “God is the Engineer of Everything”, Sema Said.
Citing on the theme “Engineering for Change” Sema said that each and every engineers plays an important role for the nation building and has a huge responsibility in different fields and urged them to be sincere and have dedication towards their service.
Er I Tiameran, Chief Engineer, NPWD (Housing), Nagaland in his brief presentation on “Vision document of NPWD Housing ” said that Nagaland state has 5377 numbers of government residential building of various types from Type I to VIP Bungalow as per PWD Housing Building inventory 2019 which was mostly constructed during 1960 and 1970s and some are beyond economical repair and outlived its building ages.
Tiameren mentioned that Nagaland state has around 1,23,182 employees as per Nagaland State government payroll as of 31 march 2021 wherein only a fractions of government employees are benefited in the government accommodation and rest is either residing in their own private house or private rented house paying huge rent fees.
He, therefore, said suggested that to overcome this issue of shortage of accommodation in housing sector the PWD Housing Nagaland has set a target by 2030 to achieve affordable housing in all the district headquarters and town from present government accommodation availability of 4.37% to achieve target at 5.20% by construction of 1000 dwelling units Flat type which may include rental housing with latest construction technology.
He further said that in order to achieve the target it need to reactivate Nagaland Housing Board with new Nagaland Housing policy to strengthen with an objective of providing an affordable Housing for all economic group of people and uniformity in all the district and towns of Nagaland he added.
Er. Hozheto Shikhu, President of Association of Engineer NPWD highlighting the significance of Engineers day said that 15th September is observed as Engineers Day to mark the birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya popularly known as MV, the first Indian civil engineer, statesman in India in recognition of his achievement.
Earlier, other Chief Engineers also spoke on the event , the programme was chaired by Er. Moasashi, Chief Engineer PWD, Mechanical.
