Dimapur, July 10: The Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has flayed Naga underground groups for trying to siphon off funds meant for students welfare from the Department of Higher and Technical Education.
“ENCSU, while extending moral support for the cause of Naga nationalism, is not appreciative of the Naga Underground Groups wanting to siphon off funds meant for students welfare,” said a press release issued by the union media cell.
The ENCSU expressed surprised that the Department of Higher and Technical Education is not left out of taxation by the UG groups knowing that it is not a revenue generating Department. “Demanding the taxation to this two Departments are just like a demanding to their own children’s or students,” it said.
Stating that it is disturbed by the interference of NPGs in the form of taxation, the ENCSU supported Temjen Imna Along, Minister of H&T Education against taxation by underground groups. It appealed to various NPGs to reconsider taxing or interfering with the Department of Higher and Technical Education.
“There is simply no excuse to disrupting the benefits of the students community who are the future leaders of our society,” it said.
While appreciating the many good changes happening in the Department, the ENCSU urged the Department to be very clean, transparent, honest and judicious in handling funds meant for students and college infrastructural development in the State. It also reiterated firm stand in safeguarding and protecting the rights and future of the students’ community. (Page News Service)
