ECI directs suspension of ADC & RO Tening

Kohima, AprIL 12: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has reportedly directed suspension and initiation of disciplinary action against the Additional Deputy Commission and Returning Officer of Tening assembly constituency under Peren District following the mistake in declaration of the February 27 poll results.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha confirmed that the directive was issued some two weeks back directing the State government to suspend and initiate disciplinary action against the Returning Officer of Tening under whose supervision the counting of the votes for the February 27 assembly polls was conducted and mistakes committed on March 3 last.
It may be recalled that on the counting day, initially the RO had declared NPF nominee Namduadi Rangkau Zeliang to be the winner by 34 votes and certificate issued to him but subsequently the same evening the result was cancelled and Nationalist Democratic Progressive Alliance (NDPP) candidate Namri Nchang declared winner by over 200 votes.
Complaints were lodged by the candidate and also NPF party against the returning officer.
However, State Election Secretariat also revealed that though the directives have been issued by the Election Commission no suspension order has been issued by the State Government while the matter may be still be in process. (Page News Service)
