Dimapur, August 24: District Public Relation Officer Dimapur, Lolano Patton graced the inaugural session of education in basic vocation and soft skills (EBVSS) on August 24 at the Youth Hostel Dimapur.
Addressing the trainees, DPRO Dimapur, maintained that the demand for higher level of skills both in the Government and private is ever increasing, leading to further development of vocational education funded by the central as well as state governments and various organisations. She described the selected trainees numbering around 20 young girls as the lucky ones as they have been selected to undergo basic education in shoe making, sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
Patton further observed that education in basic vocation or skill based education enables trainees to acquire skills which directly develops expertise in a particular technique through manual or practical activities. She advised them to wisely use the practical skills imparted during the training. “Be sincere, committed, trust in yourself, aim high and be the best you can be, if you look at yourself honestly you are carrying a goldmine within you” she said.
United Nations Volunteer, District Youth Coordinator K.Phyobemo Lotha, in his keynote address informed that EBVVS is one important core programme of Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GoI, for enhancing the economic status of educated unemployed and rural youth by making them learn specific trades and skilling them through professional trainers.
