DTO arrested in ‘cash-for-job’ scam in Assam


Guwahati, April 9: The District Transport Officer of Tezpur, Prasenjit Ghosh, was arrested from his office by a team of Dibrugarh Police today in the ‘cash-for-job’ scam in Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), taking the total number of arrested officers of Assam civil, police and allied services in this scam to 35.
Ghosh, who was recently transferred out as the DTO, Guwahati, was arrested from Tezpur and brought to Guwahati later in the afternoon.
He is being held at the headquarters of the special branch of Assam Police and is expected to be produced before the court tomorrow. Ghosh was earlier questioned by the CID in a coal scam while he was posted in Guwahati.
He was among the second batch of APSC-selected officers whose handwriting and signature specimen were collected for matching with their answer scripts in the APSC examination.
With this latest arrest, total number of officers of 2013 and 2014 batches of Assam civil, police and allied services have gone up to 35.
The arrests have been made in the ‘cash-for-job’ scam, in which the then-Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) chairman Rakesh Paul, two members of APSC and others, had already been arrested. (Agencies)
